Wanderlust: The Legend of Blackbeard's Chalice Book 4
by Maddie James

Synopsis:

When Jeremiah Porter took his little sister, Victoria, under his wing, he knew his charge was to watch over and care for her till the death. He just hadn't expected that his death would occur so quickly. No sooner had his spirit reconciled his untimely demise, was he granted a new purpose in death—God had greater plans for him—and he found himself again charged with caring for his little sister, as her guardian angel. His first task was to see her safe and taken care of in the arms of Colton MacKenzie, his other assigned charge. (The Cult, book two)

With this mission finished, Jeremiah's spirit wanders aimlessly throughout the Heavens, waiting for his next guardian angel assignment. His thoughts turn to his older brother, Jackson, who left their barrier island home after their parents' deaths. His restless spirit is drawn to a mysterious longing to put to rest the mystery of his brother's disappearance.

He senses there is much he does not know about his family and vows that now, he will find out. With Tory safe, and God's plans for him not yet revealed, he makes a deal with the “head” guardian angel and slips out of Heaven as a mortal, only to find that his wanderings on earth appear to serve no purpose.

That is, until he wanders up on a lost and confused soul that longs to stay put, but doesn't know how to take that first step toward being grounded. How well he can relate.

He still can't find his brother, Jackson , but he does find Katie MacKenzie, Colt MacKenzie's little sister.

Katie is also a wanderer, although her search is not so specific. In fact, she's not sure what she is hungering for. A new life? Exciting career change? Another attempt at love? A family? No—definitely not a family. With her mother dead, her father in prison, and her siblings scattered hither and yon, she doesn't want to risk the connectedness of a family again. Because when you have a family, there are always emotions, good and bad. When you are on your own, you have only your own emotions to deal with.

A family, she knows, is the one thing she does not want.

She's taken many an adventure the past few years, eating up most of her twenties, and now life has smacked her solidly in the face and change is imminent. Her wanderlust days are over.

She's pregnant. Alone. And for the first time in her life, more than a little frightened of her future. A baby? How can she do this? Restless and uncertain, she sets out on one last soul-searching venture. Her wandering days may soon be over, but that gut-wrenching search for… something, still nags at her. Calls her. And leaves her yearning for peace.

A peace that is difficult for her to come by.

So, not knowing what to do, she does what she's always done—moves on. A strange nesting emotion settles over her and even though she longs to buy a plane ticket or hop a train to anywhere, she opens her heart and lets in one thought—water. She needs to be near water. Her childhood home was near the sea. And return she must, to settle herself, regain her being, and focus her energies on the task at hand—figuring out her next adventure, life with a child.

She is willing and prepared to go it alone. In fact, that is her desire. And all goes well, until a tall, dark, handsome and somewhat unworldly stranger enters her life….
